This image is a result of the Tamron 10-24mm ultra wide angle lens at 10mm. The Tamron seems to perform quite good from f8 and above and gives an amazingly wide perspective at 10mm.

Almost painted

Portofino is a small Italian fishing village, located in the Genoa province on the Italian Riviera. This tiny town is crowded around its small harbour and is considered to be one of the most beautiful Mediterranean ports.

The scene is so picturesque it looks almost like a painting. Processing included adjustment with curves. I have come to believe that you can do almost any kind of adjustment using just the curves if you have enough patience! And the finishing touch was of course a subtle dose of PWL.

This is exactly where I was standing while taking this image!

Convoy

A convoy of clouds passing by in the blue sky.
While capturing digital images it is important to meter for the highlights, i.e. not to overexpose the highlights. Overexposed highlights are lost and can not be recovered while it is possible to recovers shadow details (but noise is introduced in the process). This image was exposed for the sky and then the green field was recovered using the shadow highlights and curves control. Afterwards I applied my favourite PWL subtly.

Last few minutes of the evening sun illuminating the autumn leaves.
Some local brightness and contrast adjustment with dodging and burning brought the original slightly dull image to life. Shooting against the sun will almost always produce an underexposed foreground if careful metering is not done. And even with the careful metering, some adjustment to lighten up the areas of interest is essential.

Another subtle PWL. The original image had the long shadows. I tried to enhance them with curves adjustment and then using the PWL technique lightly.

Paint with light (PWL) is an interesting technique to enhance the shadows and highlight in an image. It is in a way similar to dodging and burning but is normally more obviously applied than the later. I used PWL very subtly on this image. A very nice PWL tutorial can be found on dpreview forums at this thread.

Captured some light and shadows and a simple contrast adjustment has enhanced the pattern in this image. A basic compact digicam is all you need to capture such images.
